Is “green cleaning” any good?

Over the past few years, large numbers of carpet cleaning companies have been focusing on developing a greener approach. Small runs and low demand often meant that green chemicals were priced way above traditional cleaning solutions. rightly or wrongly there was a perception that green solutions simply did not do such a good job. Today, chemistry and more importantly commercially driven research is producing highly effective naturally derived solutions. Many work in a totally different (and much safer) way than previously. Green is no longer lacklustre, weak or underpowered.

It was not too much of an exaggeration to say that after having a carpet cleaned, the room reeked more of cleaning chemicals. As the whole idea of cleaning them was to have them fresh and healthy, this defeated the object somewhat.

Also, waste water from carpet cleaning would have to be treated properly before it could enter the water system.

Carpet cleaning companies who embraced these changes are starting to feel the benefits as consumers have become more and more educated about things. It’s not just about being seen to be “green” for marketing purposes. There are real health benefits to changing over.

I have been a carpet cleaner in Birmingham for twenty years and I feel that this is the most fundamental change in technology in that time.We will certainly be majoring in green carpet cleaning in Birmingham from now on.The latest green products are many times more effective than they were just a few years ago. Whilst some traditionalists still like their solvents, enzymes and phosphates, many cleaners are realising that their health (and that of their customers) is of paramount importance. Going green now makes sense from an economic point of view as well as an ecological one.
